In April students visited the Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker in Essex as part of their science curriculum work.

The whole day visit to the Cold War site taught us about the rise of the nuclear age in the 1950s, through to the Cold War and the need for a bunker close enough to London to devolve the whole of government to in the event of war with the USSR. The bunker is still a 'working' site with all equipment and machinery still fully operational so the students had a great day exploring war rooms, engine rooms and munitions stores as well as sleeping quarters and hospitals: a whole city underground!
