National Careers Week

National Careers Week runs from 6 – 10 March 2023 and at Bromley Beacon Academy we used this time to raise the aspirations of our learners. The week started with an audit of the future career dreams. Did you know we have potential Lawyers, therapists, scientists and paediatricians as well as music producers and fashion designers.

 Careers

To make sure our Year 11 and Sixth Form students know about the various pathways and can make informed decisions about their future, we invited Sally Bateman from Bromley Mencap in to talk about Supported Internships. This is a programme that supports young people by providing a Job Coach to help them with the early days of a work placement and help the student to gain the confidence to move forward into paid employment independently.

Next, Debs Hatton, Careers Pathways Manager from LSEC Higher Education came into school to deliver a whole school assembly about the different routes into University. A lively Q & A followed the presentation with questions such as ‘what qualifications do I need to get into university’ and ‘if I don’t have those qualifications, can I still go to university’ The answer of course is YES! You just take a different pathway, going back to college or completing an Access course. As Sir Jack Petchey says “If you think you can, you can”*
